How will this product relieve my pain?
Anadin Original contains the active ingredients aspirin and caffeine, which work together to relieve your pain fast. Aspirin is one of a group of drugs known as Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), meaning that it works to relieve your pain while also reducing inflammation, Headache & migraine, Period pain, Joint swelling, Muscular aches, Rheumatic pain, Neuralgia, Dental pain, Colds & flu, sore throat, strains, sprains, stiffness, sciatica, lumbago, high temperatures and fever. Caffeine works to speed up the effect of aspirin, increasing your pain relief at the same time.
Adults, the elderly and young persons aged 16 and over:
- Take 2 caplets with a drink of water (Anadin Extra Caplets).
or
- Take 2 tablets dissolved in a glass of water (Anadin Extra Soluble Tablets).
- Repeat every 4 hours as required.
- Do not take more than 12 tablets in 24 hours.
- Do not exceed the stated dose.
- Do not take with other products containing paracetamol.
If you do not get better, talk to your doctor.
Ingredients
Each tablet contains 325mg of aspirin and 15 mg of caffeine.
Side effects
Like all medicines, your medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. You can reduce the chances of experiencing side effects by using minimum dose required. Side effects may be more serious in elderly patients.
If you experience any of these effects then stop taking this medicine immediately and contact your doctor or pharmacist:
- Stomach ulceration or perforation: Symptoms could include severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood (or liquid with what looks like coffee grounds), blood in the faeces (stools/motions) or passing black stools.
- Breathing problems: Wheezing and breathing difficulties may be triggered in patients suffering from or with a previous history of asthma.
Other possible side effects
If any of the following side effects get serious, or if you notice any side effect not listed in this leaflet, please tell your doctor or pharmacist.
- Occasionally the blood does not clot well, which may result in easy bruising or bleeding.
- Rarely, a severe reduction in the number of white blood cells, which makes infections likely.
- High caffeine intake can result in tremor (shaking) and palpitations (uncomfortable feeling in the chest caused by fluttering heartbeat). Aspirin may trigger gout in people prone to it.

Private prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery, free of charge (all private prescription items have a minimum order value of £5.00). NHS prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery.
Normal delivery charges will apply for non-prescription items in the same basket.
