The Flowflex Antigen Rapid Covid Lateral Flow Test is a type of COVID-19 test that provides quick results. It works by using a swab from your nose or throat, and the test kit contains chemicals that can detect if you have the virus in your system. You usually get results within about 15 to 30 minutes, making it a fast way to check if you might be infected with COVID-19. It’s often used for regular testing in places like schools, workplaces, or before certain events to help identify and isolate potential cases of the virus.

How do lateral flow tests work?

Lateral flow tests, like the Flowflex Antigen Rapid Covid Lateral Flow Test, work by detecting specific proteins from the COVID-19 virus. You take a swab from your nose or throat, and then you put the swab into a special solution. Next, you place a few drops of this solution onto a test strip. The strip has tiny particles that can attach to the virus’s proteins. You’ll be asked a couple of questions from our pharmacists before you can order these lateral flow tests. We’ll ask you if you’ve collected any lateral flow test devices before, why you need the tests, and the age of the person who’ll be using the tests. These are the most common reasons you might need to undertake regular rapid testing:

  • Your child is at school or you work at a school
  • You’re in a bubble with school children or staff
  • You regularly leave the house for work
  • Your local council has advised you to take a test
  • Your GP or other healthcare professional has asked you to take a test

 

Directions for use

A typical process for a lateral flow COVID-19 test involves taking a swab from your nose and/or throat. This swab is then placed in a testing solution, and a few drops of this solution are applied to an absorbent pad, triggering a reaction that reveals the result. After letting the device sit on a flat surface for 30 minutes, you can check the outcome: one line near ‘C’ signifies a negative result, while two lines (‘C’ and ‘T’) indicate a positive result. If only one line appears near ‘T,’ the test is invalid, requiring a retest with a new kit. Reporting your result to the NHS within 24 hours is crucial. In case of a positive result, you and your household must immediately self-isolate for the following 10 days, practicing extra caution if anyone is vulnerable. While lateral flow tests are proficient in detecting COVID-19 in those with a substantial viral load, they might miss cases with low virus levels. Therefore, a negative result should not lead to disregarding public health measures; you must still adhere to the current guidance.
