Germolene Wound Care Cream 30g can be used to treat minor abrasions, cuts, grazes, scratches, burns, bites and sting. Healing and soothing wounds, this cream contains a mild antiseptic to prevent any infection whilst being gentle to your skin.

What Germolene wound care cream contains: 

The active substance is chlorhexidine dihydrochloride 0.5% w/w.

The other ingredients are dexpanthenol, DL- lactone, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, white soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, wool fat (lanolin), purified water and macrogol stearate.

Side effects 

Like all medicines, Germolene wound care cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

You may experience the following: 

  • An allergic skin reaction (local irritation, rash, itching) and a burning sensation. Applying the product over large areas of skin may increase the risk of these reactions.
  • A serious allergic reaction which causes difficulty in breathing and dizziness. If this happens stop using this product, tell your doctor straight away or go to the accident and emergency department of your nearest hospital.

If you are concerned about this, or if the cream affects you in any other way, stop using Germolene wound care cream and tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Warnings and precautions

  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
  • Do not use Germolene wound care cream after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and on the end of the tube. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
  • This cream contains cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol and wool fat (lanolin) which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).
