More About Gina 10mcg Vaginal Tablet

Gina 10mcg Vaginal Tablet is a vaginal tablet and contain estradiol.

  • Estradiol is a female sex hormone.
  • It belongs to a group of hormones called oestrogens.
  • It is exactly the same as the estradiol produced by the ovaries of women.
  • Gina belongs to a group of medicines called local vaginal Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
  • Used to relieve menopausal symptoms in the vagina such such as dryness or irritation also known as ‘Vaginal Atrophy’
  • It helps to treat vaginal atrophy in postmenopausal women and who have not had a period for at least 1 year.

Working: It works by replacing the oestrogen which is normally produced in the ovaries of women. It is inserted into your vagina, so the hormone is released where is needed. It may relieve discomfort in the vagina.

Don’t use Gina if you have ever:

  • Allergic (hypersensitive) to estradiol
  • Womb or ovarian cancer
  • Vaginal or genital bleeding since your periods stopped due to the menopause.
  • Vaginal Infections
  • Vulva dermatoses
  • Breast Cancer
  • Blood clot in a vein (thrombosis)
  • Heart attack, stroke or angina
  • Liver disease
  • Rare blood Problem called ‘Porphyria’

How much to use:

  • Initial dose: Use one vaginal tablet daily for the first two weeks of treatment
  • Maintenance dose: Use one vaginal tablet twice per week. Leave 3-4 days between each dosage.
  • You may use this medication at any time of the day, but we recommend that you try to use it at the same time for each application.
  • If you wish to restart using Gina, you may do so at any time if the product is still suitable for use and your overall health remains the same.
  • If your symptoms are still being relieved after a break from treatment with Gina, it is recommended that you restart treatment at the maintenance dose.
  • If you experience troublesome symptoms again after a break from treatment with Gina, it is recommended that you restart treatment at the starting dose for two weeks, followed by the maintenance dose.
  • Do not use more than the recommended dose.
  • Using this medication:You may begin using Gina on any day that suits you best. Please read the “User Instructions” at the end of the leaflet carefully before starting to use Gina.
  • If you use more Gina than you should: Using a higher dose than the usual dose for a short period is improbable to be harmful. If you believe this dose is too strong or inadequate to alleviate your symptoms adequately, please consult with your doctor. The dose of Gina should not be increased.
  • If you forget to use Gina: If you forget to take a dose, please use the medication as soon as you remember. Do not take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose.
  • If you wish to stop using Gina: You may stop using Gina at any time, but symptoms frequently return when you discontinue treatment. If you want to try an alternative therapy, please speak with your doctor.
  • If you require surgery: If you plan to have surgery, please inform your surgeon that you are using Gina. To reduce the risk of a blood clot, you may need to stop using Gina approximately 4 to 6 weeks before the surgery. Please ask your doctor when you can resume using this medication.

Gina Contains:

  • The active substance is estradiol 10 micrograms (as estradiol hemihydrate).
  • Other ingredients are: hypromellose, lactose monhydrate, maize starch and magnesium stearate.
  • The Film-coating contains: hypromellose and macrogol 6000.

Like all medicines, Gina can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop using this medicine and seek for urgent medical attention if you have the following allergic reactions to Gina:

  • Suddenly feeling unwell with sweating.
  • Vomiting
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Rapid heartbeat or feeling dizzy.
  • Any new Vaginal bleeding, spotting or itching.
  • If you have endometriosis and symptoms come back
  • Any Vaginal Infections
