Hirudoid cream is a local anti-coagulant preparation which, when applied to the skin, relieves pain and inflammation and helps to heal thrombophelbitis (inflammation of veins) and bruising (including haematoma).

Following the updated GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) guidelines, we are required to restrict the amount of Pharmacy Medicines, we dispense to one box per household per month.

Hirudoid Cream contains the active substance heparinoid.
Hirudoid Cream is a local anti-coagulant preparation that, when applied to the skin, relieves pain and inflammation in addition to promoting healing in superficial thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the veins) and bruising (including hematoma).

Caution before using Hirudoid Cream:

  • Hirudoid cream contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may also cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
  • Hirudoid cream contains propylene glycol which may cause skin irritation.

Hirudoid Cream is not to be used on:

  • Children under five years old.
  • Broken skin or open wounds.
  • Large areas of skin.
  • Sensitive skins areas such as near the mouth, eyes or in the genital areas.
  • Known sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient.
  • Lining of the body’s cavities (mucous membranes)
  • Sensitive skin

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.

If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Like all medicine, Hirudoid Cream can cause side-effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rarely, Hirudoid Cream can causes a rash in sensitive individuals. If this occurs, STOP, using the cream and tellyour doctor or pharmacist.

Reporting of side effects

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor , pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. Heparinoid 0.3% wlw (Equivalent to 25 000 Units per 100 g cream).

This contains Cetostearyl alcohol and lanolin.
These ingredients may cause local skin reactions (for example contact dermatitis)

It also has Methyl parahydroxybenzoate & Propyl parahydroxybenzoate. This ingredients may cause allegric reactions (possibly delayed)

Delivery Timescales

Private prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery, free of charge (all private prescription items have a minimum order value of £5.00). NHS prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery.
