Hirudoid Gel contains the active substance heparinoid.
Hirudoid Gel is a local anti-coagulant preparation that, when applied to the skin, relieves pain and inflammation in addition to promoting healing in superficial thrombophlebitis (inflammation of the veins) and bruising (including hematoma).

Caution before using Hirudoid Gel:

  • Hirudoid gel contains methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), which may also cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
  • Hirudoid gel contains propylene glycol which may cause skin irritation.

Hirudoid Gel is not to be used on:

  • Children under five years old.
  • Broken skin or open wounds.
  • Large areas of skin.
  • Sensitive skins areas such as near the mouth, eyes or in the genital areas.
  • Known sensitivity or allergy to any ingredient.
  • Lining of the body’s cavities (mucous membranes)
  • Sensitive skin

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy.

If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Hirudoid Gel can cause side-effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rarely, Hirudoid gel can cause a rash in sensitive individuals. If this occurs, STOP using the gel and tell your doctor or pharmacist

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

The active ingredient is 0.3% w/w heparinoid

Hirudoid Gel contains 0.5% w/w propylene glycol per applicationThe other ingredients are isopropyl alcohol, polyacrylic acid, propylene glycol (E1520), purified water and sodium hydroxide.

Delivery Timescales

Private prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery, free of charge (all private prescription items have a minimum order value of £5.00). NHS prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery.
Normal delivery charges will apply for non-prescription items in the same basket.
