What are Loratadine tablets are and what they are used for?
Loratadine 10mg – 30 Tablets block the effects of a substance called histamine in the body, which is involved in allergic reactions. It is used to treat hay fever, year-round allergies such as dust or pet allergies, and skin conditions like urticaria. Loratadine tablets relieve symptoms like sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itchy eyes, and skin rashes.
Ingredients
The active ingredient is Loratadine 10mg. Other ingredients are lactose, maize starch, pregelatinised starch and magnesium stearate.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Seek medical attention or see your doctor immediately if you experience difficulty in breathing, swelling of the face, neck, tongue or throat (these are severe allergic reactions).
The most commonly reported side effects in adults and children over 12 years of age are:
- Drowsiness
- Headache
- Difficulty sleeping
- Increased appetite
The most commonly reported side effects in children aged 2 to 12 years are:
- Tiredness
- Headache
- Nervousness
Warnings and precautions
If the following happens, stop taking Loratadine and tell your doctor immediately or go to the casualty department at your nearest hospital: • a severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, mouth or throat which may cause difficulty swallowing or breathing). Children aged 2 to 12 years: Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): headache, nervousness and tiredness (fatigue). Adults and children over 12 years: Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people): drowsiness (somnolence), headache, increased appetite, Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people): dizziness, convulsions, fast or uneven heartbeat (tachycardia, palpitations), feeling sick (nausea), dry mouth, inflammation of the stomach, which may lead to stomach pain, being sick, or loss of appetite (gastritis), abnormal liver function (shown by blood test results), rash, hair loss (alopecia), tiredness (fatigue).

Private prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery, free of charge (all private prescription items have a minimum order value of £5.00). NHS prescription medicines are sent by courier, tracked 24hr delivery.
Normal delivery charges will apply for non-prescription items in the same basket.
