How does it work?
Nicorette Microtab 2mg is placed under the tongue and slowly dissolves a limited amount of nicotine to relieve any cravings. This nicotine is absorbed into your body through the lining of your mouth.
For effectively quitting smoking, it is recommended to use Nicorette Microtabs for 12 weeks, and after 12 weeks gradually reduce the number of Microtabs per day.
When you are down to using 1 or 2 microtabs a day, you can try doing without it completely.
Do not use Nicorette Microtabs over a period longer than 9 months.
Ingredients
The active ingredient in Nicorette 2 mg gum is 2mg nicotine.
Other ingredients are: Chewing gum base, sorbitol, sodium carbonate, flavourings (contains ethanol), polacrilin, glycerol and talc.
The chewing gum base contains butylated hydroxy toluene (E321), an anti-oxidant.
The 2 mg also contains sodium bicarbonate.
The gum does not contain sugar (sucrose) or animal products.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Nicorette Gum can have side-effects. As many of the effects are due to nicotine, they can also occur when nicotine is obtained by smoking.
Effects related to stopping smoking (nicotine withdrawal)
You may experience unwanted effects because by stopping smoking you have reduced the amount of nicotine you are taking. You may also experience these effects if you under use Nicorette Gum before you are ready to reduce your nicotine intake.
These effects include:
- Irritability or aggression
- Anxiety
- Feeling low
- Increased appetite or weight gain
- Urges to smoke (craving)
- Lowering of heart rate
