The name of your medicine is Celevac. Celevac contains the active ingredient methylcellulose. Methylcellulose is a simple bulking agent which also occurs naturally. The tablets work by absorbing
water and increasing in size to make bulk in the stomach or bowels. This action helps to restore normal bowel function in both constipation and diarrhoea. It can also give a feeling of fullness which can help to reduce your appetite for food.
Celevac is used to:
– help relieve constipation or diarrhoea;
– control the consistency of faeces in people with a colostomy or ileostomy;
– control bowel movement disturbances caused by small sacs or pouches in the wall of the gut (diverticular disease);
– manage the symptoms of ulcerative colitis (symptoms include diarrhoea with mucus and pus and severe abdominal pain);
– reduce appetite in the treatment of obesity.
