Night Nurse Liquid is a night-time remedy for colds, chills, and flu symptoms. It combines three active ingredients to help you feel better. Paracetamol eases pain and lowers fever. Promethazine hydrochloride dries up a runny nose and promotes better sleep. Dextromethorphan hydrobromide soothes dry or tickly coughs. Night Nurse can also provide relief for a sore throat. It’s a comprehensive solution for night-time relief from these common ailments.

Can Night Nurse Liquid cause Addiction?

Night Nurse can cause addiction if you take it more than the recommended dose:

  1. This product contains paracetamol.
  2. Taking an excessive amount of paracetamol can seriously harm your liver.
  3. Please avoid consuming any other products that contain paracetamol within four hours of using this product.
  4. Refrain from taking this product alongside other antihistamine-containing preparations, including topical antihistamines, as well as cough and cold medicines.

How do you know If you’re Addicted?

Wondering if you might be addicted to Night Nurse? Look out for these signs:

  • Taking it for longer than advised
  • Feeling the need to take more than the recommended dose
  • Using it for reasons not indicated on the label
  • Feeling unwell when you stop taking it, and better when you start again.

Can you use Night Nurse Liquid if you’re Pregnant or Breast Feeding ?

  1. Night Nurse contains 18% v/v ethanol (alcohol), which is about 2.9 grams per dose. To put it in perspective, this is roughly equivalent to 72 ml of beer or 30 ml of wine per dose.
  2. If you have a history of alcoholism, it’s essential to be cautious as this could be harmful.
  3. It’s also important to consider this if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, a child, or fall into high-risk groups such as individuals with liver disease or epilepsy.
  4. If you experience symptoms like a high temperature, skin rash, or persistent headache along with your current condition, it’s advisable to consult your doctor.
  5. Lastly, please be aware that this medicine can potentially interfere with pregnancy tests that use urine samples, possibly leading to inaccurate results.

How to take Night Nurse Liquid ?

For oral use only. This medicine is intended for adults and children aged 16 years and over:

  • Measure 20 ml using the provided measuring cup.
  • Take one 20 ml dose, equivalent to four teaspoonfuls, at bedtime only.

Please note:

  • Do not take Night Nurse if you have already consumed four doses (4000 mg) of a paracetamol-containing product, including this one, within a 24-hour period. If you’re uncertain, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Take only one dose of Night Nurse per night.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose.Use Night Nurse for the shortest period required.
  • Do not take for more than 3 days.
  • This medicine is not suitable for individuals under 16 years of age.

It’s important to be aware that caregivers should not administer this medicine to elderly patients with confusion. The elderly population is more susceptible to experiencing adverse effects, including confusion, when using this medicine.

 

What are the Active Ingredients of Night Nurse Liquid?

Each 20 ml dose of this medicine contains:

  • Paracetamol 1000 mg
  • Promethazine Hydrochloride 20 mg
  • Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 15 mg

In addition to the active ingredients, it also contains:

  • Liquid glucose
  • Ethanol (alcohol)
  • Macrogol 300
  • Sodium cyclamate
  • Acesulfame K
  • Sodium citrate
  • Ascorbic acid
  • Disodium edetate
  • Medicated flavor liquid
  • Colours: Quinoline yellow (E 104) and Patent Blue V (E 131)
  • Water

Important Information about the Night Nurse use:

1. Short-Term Use: Night Nurse can lead to dependence, so it should only be used for a short duration.

2. Avoid Alcohol: Do not consume alcohol while using Night Nurse. It contains 18% v/v ethanol (alcohol), which is equivalent to 72 ml of beer or 30 ml of wine per dose. This can be harmful if you have a history of alcoholism, are pregnant, breastfeeding, a child, or in high-risk groups like those with liver disease or epilepsy.

5. Driving and Machinery: Night Nurse can cause drowsiness, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, movement difficulties, or blurred vision. Do not drive or operate machinery if you are affected. It may be illegal to drive while taking this medicine, except if it’s for a medical or dental issue and you’ve used it as directed without affecting your ability to drive safely.

What are the Possible Side Effects of Night Nurse Liquid?

Possible side effects of Night Nurse may include:

  • Common Side Effects: These may include drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, difficulty concentrating, unsteadiness, clumsiness, headache, and dry mouth.
  • Serious Side Effects: Stop taking Night Nurse and contact your doctor immediately if you experience severe allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching (sometimes with swelling of the mouth or face), or shortness of breath. Other serious side effects may include skin rash, peeling, or mouth ulcers, breathing problems (especially if you’ve had them with other painkillers like ibuprofen or aspirin), unexplained bruising or bleeding, confusion, restlessness, sweating, shaking, sudden muscle jerks, increased blood pressure (these could be symptoms of serotonin syndrome), difficulty passing urine, nausea, vomiting, stomach ache, sudden weight loss, loss of appetite, and yellowing of the eyes and skin. Restlessness, nervousness, irritability, increased energy, and sleep disturbances may also occur, especially in children, but these effects are rare.
  • Drug Withdrawal: When you stop taking Night Nurse, you may experience withdrawal symptoms, including restlessness, difficulty sleeping, irritability, agitation, anxiety, palpitations (feeling your heartbeat), increased blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, shivering, or sweating. If you have concerns about withdrawal, consult your doctor.

Please note that while some side effects are common, many of the serious effects listed are rare. If you have any concerns about your medication, it’s important to consult your healthcare provider.
