Paracetamol 500mg Caplets 16s are used for the relief of pain and fevers. They can also be used for the relief of cold and influenza symptoms.

What Paracetamol 500mg Caplets are and what they are used for:

  • Paracetamol relieves pain and brings down high temperatures (reduces fever).
  • Paracetamol 500mg Tablets are used for the relief of mild to moderate pain including headache, migraine, nerve pain (neuralgia), toothache, sore throat and period pains
  • symptoms of rheumatic and muscular aches and pains, sciatica, back pain (lumbago), joint swelling and stiffness
  • symptoms of colds and flu.

What you need to know before you take paracetamol caplets

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to paracetamol or any other ingredients of this medicine. Signs of allergic reaction include a rash and breathing problems. There can also be swelling of the leg, arms, face, throat, or tongue.

If you are taking other medicines and Paracetamol 500mg Caplets

    Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking the tablets if you are taking any of the following:

  • medicines for nausea or sickness, such as metoclopramide or domperidone.
  • cholestyramine for high cholesterol or high blood fats.
  • warfarin (or other medicines used to thin the blood and reduce the risk of clotting). The risk of bleeding may be increased if you take paracetamol daily over a long period of time. However, you can take occasional doses of paracetamol.

Directions for use

It is important to take paracetamol exactly as directed in this leaflet. If you have any doubts, please consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.

Adults and children over 16 years old should take two tablets of paracetamol, swallowed whole with a drink of water. It is important to wait at least 4 hours before taking another dose, and not to exceed 4 doses in any 24-hour period.

For children aged 10 to 15 years, one tablet of paracetamol should be taken every 4 to 6 hours as necessary, with a maximum of 4 doses in 24 hours.

It is not recommended to give Paracetamol 500mg tablets to children under 10 years old.

If you accidentally take more paracetamol than you should, seek medical attention immediately, even if you feel well. Overdosing on paracetamol can cause serious liver damage, which may manifest later. Remember to take any remaining tablets and the pack with you, so the doctor can determine what you have taken.

If you forget to take a dose of paracetamol, take it as soon as you remember, but do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one. Remember to wait at least 4 hours before taking another dose. If you need to use paracetamol for more than three days, you should see your doctor.

The active ingredient is: Paracetamol 500mg per tablet.
Other ingredients are: Pregelatinised maize starch, sodium metabisulfite (E223) and
magnesium stearate.

Side effects

Do not take anything else containing paracetamol while taking this medicine. Talk to a doctor at once if you take too much of this.
Like all medicines, paracetamol can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Side effects are rare with paracetamol.
Stop taking the tablets and contact your doctor immediately if you notice

  • skin rashes or other signs of allergic reaction such as itching, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty in breathing.
  • unexpected bruising or bleeding, persistent tiredness, or increase in the number of infections (e.g. sore throats) which you get. These are possible signs of changes in the blood
  • skin rash or peeling, or mouth ulcers
  • breathing problems. These are more likely if you have experienced them before when taking other painkillers such as ibuprofen and aspirin.
  • nausea, sudden weight loss, loss of appetite and yellowing of the eyes and skin.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take this medicine if: 

  • You have severe kidney or liver disease, including alcoholic liver disease.
  • You are pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

Taking other medicines:

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before you take this medicine if you are taking any of the following:

  • Medicines for nausea or sickness, such as metoclopramide or domperidone.
  • Colestyramine for high cholesterol or high blood fats.
  • Warfarin or other medicines to thin the blood and reduce the risk of clotting.
  • Imatinib, used to treat certain cancers.
  • Some antibiotics (chloramphenicol).
  • Any other tablets or medicines including any not prescribed by your doctor.
