What Allevia is and what it is used for?

Allevia contains fexofenadine hydrochloride, which is a non-drowsy antihistamine. Allevia Hayfever 15-Tablets is used in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (for example hayfever) such as sneezing, itchy, runny or blocked nose and itchy, red and watery eyes.

How to take Allevia?

  1. Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you.
  2. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  3. For adults and children aged 12 years and over
  4. The recommended dose is one tablet (120 mg) daily.
  5. Take the tablet with water before a meal.
  6. This medicine starts to relieve your symptoms within 1 hour and lasts for 24 hours.
  7. Allevia is not recommended for children under 12 years  of age.

What Allevia contains

Allevia tablets contain the active ingredient fexofenadine hydrochloride, which is a non-drowsy antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hayfever and allergic rhinitis in adults and adolescents over the age of 12. Each tablet contains 120 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride.

  • The active substance is fexofenadine hydrochloride. Each tablet contains 120 mg of fexofenadine hydrochloride.
  • The other ingredients are:
    • Tablet core: microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised maize starch, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate.
    • Film coating: hypromellose, povidone K30, titanium dioxide (E171), colloidal anhydrous silica, macrogol 400, red iron oxide (E172) and yellow iron oxide (E172).

Warnings and precautions

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Allevia if:
  • You have problems with your liver
  • You have problems with your kidneys
  • You have or ever had heart disease
  • You are elderly
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding
  • Do not exceed the stated dose
  • If symptoms persist consult your doctor

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Allevia is unlikely to affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, you should check that these tablets do not make you feel sleepy or dizzy before driving or operating machinery.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Tell your doctor immediately and stop taking Allevia if you experience:

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat and difficulty breathing, as these may be signs of a serious allergic reaction.

The following undesirable effects have been reported in clinical trials, with an incidence similar to those observed in patients who did not receive the drug (placebo).

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):

  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Diziness

Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):

  • Sleepiness/ tiredness
