What Treathay is and what it is used for?

Treathay tablets for prescription strength relief, suitable for allergies including hayfever – without the need for a prescription

  • Available behind the counter at your pharmacist
  • Treats hayfever and allergy symptoms
  • Moderate to severe allergy sufferers may start using a few days before the allergy season
  • For aged 12+ only
  • Some may feel relief after 12 hours from first dose (product is a corticosteroid – so modulates DNA transcription – so it is not a “fast acting” product), however, full benefit may not be seen in the first two days.
  • Start with one tablets a day.

Directions for use

  1. Always take this medicine exactly as described here or as your doctor or pharmacist have told you.
  2. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  3. For adults and children aged 12 years and over
  4. The recommended dose is one tablet (120 mg) daily.
  5. Take the tablet with water before a meal.
  6. This medicine starts to relieve your symptoms within 1 hour and lasts for 24 hours.
  7. Treathay is not recommended for children under 12 years  of age.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

If you get any of the following symptoms after taking these tablets you should contact your doctor or pharmacist immediately as these may be signs of a serious allergic reaction:

  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat and difficulty breathing.The following side effects have also been reported: Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
    • headache
    • drowsiness
    • feeling sick (nausea)
    • dizziness
  • Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):  tiredness or sleepiness
  • Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data)
    • difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
    • sleeping disorders
    • bad dreams
    • nervousness
    • fast or irregular heart beat
    • diarrhoea
    • skin rash and itching
    • hives
    • serious allergic reaction which can cause swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, flushing, chest tightness
    • difficulty breathing

Warnings and precautions 

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Treathay if you:

  • Have problems with your liver or kidneys.
  • Are elderly
  • Have or ever had heart problem, as fexofendine, like other antihistamines may cause your heart to beat faster (tachycardia) or you feel your heart beating (palpitations).
