What is Thrush (Fluconazole) Fungal Infection 150mg Capsules And What They Are Used For?

Thrush 150mg – 2 Capsules belongs to a group of medicines called “antifungals”. The active substance is Fluconazole. It is used to treat infections caused by fungi and may also be used to stop you from getting a candida infection. The most common cause of fungal infection is a yeast called Candida.

Adults
You might be given this medicine by your doctor to treat the following types of fungal infections:

  • Cryptococcal meningitis – a fungal infection in the brain
  • Coccidioidomycosis – a disease of the bronchopulmonary system
  • Infections caused by Candida and found in the bloodstream, body organs (e.g. heart, lungs) or urinary tract
  • Genital thrush – infection of the vagina or penis
  • Skin infections – e.g. athlete’s foot, ringworm, jock itch, nail infection

You might also be given Fluconazole capsules to:

  • Stop cryptococcal meningitis from coming back
  • Reduce the recurrence of vaginal thrush
  • Stop you from getting an infection caused by Candida (if your immune system is weak and not working properly)

Children and adolescents (0 to 17 years old)
You might be given this medicine by your doctor to treat the following types of fungal infections:

  • Infections caused by Candida and found in the bloodstream, body organs (e.g. heart, lungs) or urinary tract
  • Cryptococcal meningitis – a fungal infection in the brain

You might also be given Fluconazole capsules to:

  • Stop you from getting an infection caused by Candida (if your immune system is weak and not working properly)
  • Stop cryptococcal meningitis from coming back

Fluconazole 150 mg Capsules are a medication used to treat fungal infections. Here’s how to use them properly:

Dosage:
  • The recommended dose for adults aged 16-60 years is one capsule.
  • Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Age Restrictions:
  • This medication is not recommended for use in children under 16 years or adults over 60 years.
  • If you fall within this age range, consult your doctor before taking Fluconazole 150 mg Capsules.
Relief of Symptoms:
  • If your symptoms persist for more than one week after taking this medication, consult your doctor.
  • If your symptoms worsen at any time, talk to your doctor.
Overdose:
  • If you accidentally take more Fluconazole 150 mg Capsules than you should, contact your doctor or the nearest hospital as soon as possible.

What Fluconazole contains:

  • The active substance is fluconazole 150 mg.
  • The other ingredients are lactose monohydrate, maize starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium lauryl sulfate and magnesium stearate. The capsule shell contains gelatin and titanium dioxide (E171) and brilliant blue (E133)

Like all medicines, Fluconazole capsules can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking Fluconazole 150mg capsule straight away and contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

  • A serious allergic reaction  (anaphylaxis) or hypersensitivity including an itchy rash (hives), itching, sore mouth or eyes, fever, swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue.
  • Liver problems such as yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes (jaundice), dark coloured urine, or changes in the way your liver works (that may show up in blood tests).
  • A sudden wheeziness or tightness of the chest.
  • Widespread rash, high body temperature and enlarged lymph node (Dress syndrome or drug hypersensitivity syndrome).

Warnings and precautions

  • Before taking Fluconazole 150mg capsule , you should see your doctor if you:
  • Are unsure about the cause of your symptoms.
  • Have had thrush more than twice in the last six months.
  • Are taking any medicine other than the contraceptive pill.
  • Are aged under 16 or over 60 years.
  • Suffer from heart disease, including heart rhythm problems.
